Fang, the structural carpenter of a team which has reconstructed about three hundred buildings following the design and the technology from a few hundred years ago, leads us to explore his ‘carpenter family’ in Shaoxing in southern China. This documentary unveils the people behind the glory of those magnificent Chinese traditional buildings that we still can see today.
After we finished making this documentary, we invited the whole carpenter team to the screening. The screening was held in the hall of a Chinese traditional building. Although this building is constructed by those carpenters we shot, it was their first time to enter after it was accomplished. Because most of the three hundred buildings they have built or repaired became high-end hotels and restaurants, they cannot go in and out those masterpieces they have done freely.
